Kabaka Comforts Traders After Katwe Market Fire

By | March 17, 2026

Kabaka Ronald Mutebi visited Katwe Market on Sunday, offering consolation to traders devastated by the Nabambulira fire that erupted two nights ago.

The fire, which tore through the market on land traditionally under the Kabaka’s jurisdiction, destroyed goods worth millions of shillings, including cultural and traditional items.

Katwe Market hosts over 300 traders, many of whom were visibly moved by the monarch’s gesture.

After meeting traders, the Kabaka continued to Namirembe, where members of the church received him warmly.

The visit follows President directives for Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda and city officials to submit a detailed report on the fire’s cause and the resulting damages.
