Centenary Bank’s Rukungiri Branch has donated food items to the Muslim community at Bikurungu Mosque in Rukungiri District to support them during the holy month of Ramadan.
The items were officially handed over at the mosque headquarters located in Mironzi 3 Cell, Western Division of Bikurungu Town Council. The donation included 180 kilograms of rice, 60 kilograms of sugar, and 40 litres of cooking oil.
Branch Manager Brian Kasaija said the bank is committed to giving back to the community and supporting its customers. He noted that although Centenary Bank is founded on Catholic values, Muslims remain an important part of its customer base.
“The food donation is meant to assist Muslims during Ramadan, particularly in preparing Iftar meals used to break the daily fast in the evening. As a bank, we have always supported the Muslim community on several occasions and we thank them for their continued trust in the institution,” Kasaija said.
Rukungiri District Muslim Community Chairperson Haji Sowedi Muyendo expressed gratitude to the bank for the support, noting that Bikurungu Mosque is among the few mosques in the district that provides daily Iftar meals throughout Ramadan.
Rukungiri District Muslim Secretary Siragi Kiconco, who represented the District Khadi, also appreciated the bank for its continued support towards Muslim religious activities and assured the institution of continued cooperation from the community.
Bikurungu County Sheikh Asuman Kagwa said the donated items will help sustain the mosque’s Iftar programme for the remainder of the Ramadan period.
“I encourage Muslims to continue banking with Centenary Bank in appreciation of its reliable services and continued support to the community,” Kagwa said.
