Prisons Place Shs10m Bounty on Suspect in Kiboga Prison Shooting

Uganda Prisons Service commissioner general Johnson Byabashaija has announced a Shs10 million cash reward for anyone who provides credible information leading to the arrest of Warder Moses Anguyo, the main suspect in the fatal shooting at Kiboga Government Prison last month.

‎The reward was announced on Monday as security agencies intensify efforts to track down the fugitive officer who has been on the run since the February incident that shocked the country.

‎In a press statement released on Monday, the Prisons spokesperson, Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja, said the bounty is intended to encourage members of the public to share any information that could lead to Anguyo’s capture.

‎“The Commissioner General, Uganda Prisons Service has put a bounty of Shs10M as reward to anyone who provides reliable information leading to the arrest of murderer No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses, the prime suspect in the recent fatal shooting incident at Uganda Government Prison - Kiboga that left four people dead,” Baine said.

‎He added that anyone with useful information should report to the nearest police station or use the toll-free lines provided by the security agencies.

‎“All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality,” the statement noted, urging the public to cooperate with authorities in locating the suspect.

‎The development comes weeks after the tragic shooting at Kiboga Prison that left senior prison officers dead and sent shockwaves through the correctional service and the surrounding community.

‎According to Uganda Prisons Service, the incident occurred at around 10am when Warder Anguyo allegedly turned his firearm on his supervisors before fleeing the facility.

‎Those killed in the attack were Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, the Deputy Officer in Charge of Kiboga Prison; Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, who served as the third in command; and Ms Sarah Ayebare, the wife of the Officer-in-Charge.

‎Security agencies immediately secured the scene following the shooting and launched a joint manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large and is considered dangerous.

‎Authorities have since appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could help track down the fugitive officer as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident continue.
