As we celebrate this Women’s Day, I call upon all Ugandans and people around the world to stand as pillars in fighting domestic and gender-based violence, to defend the rights of the girl child, women, and to promote gender equality

As Uganda joined the rest of the world in marking International Women’s Day, the State Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Peace Mutuuzo, called on citizens to take an active role in ending domestic and gender-based violence.

In her Women’s Day message, Mutuuzo urged Ugandans and the global community to stand firm as pillars in the fight against abuse and discrimination targeting women and girls.

“As we celebrate this Women’s Day, I call upon all Ugandans and people around the world to stand as pillars in fighting domestic and gender-based violence, to defend the rights of the girl child, women, and to promote gender equality,” she said.

The minister emphasized that protecting women and girls from violence is not solely the responsibility of government, but a shared duty that requires collective effort from families, communities, civil society, and international partners.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development, noting that collaboration with stakeholders remains key in advancing gender equality and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups.

Her remarks come at a time when the country continues to strengthen policies and programs aimed at addressing gender-based violence, improving access to justice, and empowering women socially and economically.

While celebrations unfolded across the country, the minister’s message underscored the importance of unity, vigilance, and sustained action in building a society where women and girls can live free from violence and discrimination, and fully realize their potential.
