One Dead in Nighttime Head-On Crash on Kamuli–Jinja Road

Busoga North Region — One person has died following a head-on collision late Sunday night at Nawanyago along the Kamuli–Jinja Highway, according to regional police.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. and involved a white TATA truck (registration UBL 841L) and a white Nissan Double Cabin (registration UAK 516Z).

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Nissan Double Cabin was travelling from Jinja towards Kamuli, while the TATA truck was heading in the opposite direction.

Police allege that upon reaching Nawanyago, the driver of the TATA truck lost control and collided head-on with the Nissan Double Cabin.

The impact killed the driver of the Nissan Double Cabin instantly. Authorities had not yet released the identity of the deceased at the time of reporting.

The driver of the TATA truck reportedly fled the scene and remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt to locate him and continue investigations.

Busoga North Region Police spokesperson Samson Lubega confirmed that inquiries into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.

Authorities urged motorists to exercise heightened caution, especially on highways at night when visibility is limited and fatigue can impair driving. Police emphasized the importance of maintaining lane discipline, controlling speed, and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy to prevent fatal collisions.
