A delegation of Muslim leaders from the Greater Muslim District covering Mpigi District, Butambala District, and Gomba District has paid a courtesy visit to the Mufti of Uganda, Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala.
The delegation, operating under the Butambala Masjid Imams Association, was led by District Kadhi Sheikh Muhammad Kabuye.
He said the visit aimed to formally introduce the association and seek institutional support for community development projects.
“We initiated this association to promote development within our communities and to strengthen cooperation among Imams. We are here to acquaint the Mufti with our mission and seek his guidance and support,” Sheikh Kabuye said.
In his welcoming remarks, Mubaje urged the delegation to prioritise unity and brotherhood as a foundation for achieving their goals.
“Promote unity and brotherhood among yourselves. This will enable you to realise your aspirations and strengthen the Muslim community,” the Mufti advised.
He also reiterated his call for Imams in the districts to register under the SACCO initiative to benefit from the Presidential pledge aimed at boosting household incomes and alleviating poverty among mosque leaders.
“Registering under the SACCO will enable Imams to benefit from the Presidential support intended to improve livelihoods, recognising the vital spiritual role you play in guiding the faithful,” he added.
Earlier, UMSC Secretary General Hajj Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi briefed the delegation on the current state of Muslim affairs in the country and encouraged continued collaboration with the Council.
“Remain focused and continue supporting UMSC programmes. We are committed to offering institutional support whenever opportunities arise,” Ssekyanzi assured.
The visit underscored growing efforts by local Muslim leaders to strengthen organisational structures and pursue development initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of their communities.
