A devastating fire has gutted a furniture workshop in Kalerwe, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and leaving property worth millions of shillings destroyed.
Earlier reports had indicated that offices in buildings opposite Kalerwe Market, including those linked to the opposition National Unity Platform, could have been affected.
However, confirmation from Nile Post reporter Siraje Kiberu indicates that the primary structure impacted is a furniture workshop.
Police firefighters are currently battling the blaze to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures in the densely populated suburb.
By press time, the cause of the fire had not yet been established. Authorities are expected to begin investigations once the flames are fully contained.
