Salam Charity has expanded its humanitarian interventions to Katakwi and Luuka districts, targeting vulnerable Muslim communities grappling with water shortages, limited access to education and healthcare, and inadequate places of worship.
At the invitation of Vice President Jessica Alupo, Salam Charity, led by Managing Director Hajj Karim Kaliisa, conducted a feasibility study in Katakwi District to assess the pressing needs of the Muslim community.
The assessment identified key challenges, including limited educational opportunities, scarce safe drinking water, inadequate healthcare services, and prolonged drought affecting agricultural productivity.
In response, the organisation launched a targeted campaign to address these gaps. With support from its partners and well-wishers, Salam Charity constructed mosques, drilled boreholes to improve access to clean water, and distributed zakat to vulnerable families.
The interventions covered several areas, including Toroma, Abwanget, Aputon, Awojabule, Kapujani, and Usuk. Residents in these communities have since reported improved access to safe water and better spaces for communal prayers.
Following the impact recorded in Katakwi, Salam Charity has received requests from other districts seeking similar support.
Luuka District has now been selected for the next phase of intervention.
The organisation is working closely with Hajj Farouk Kirunda and Annet Naabirye to assess and respond to challenges in Luuka, particularly poor living standards, limited access to clean water, and insufficient prayer facilities.
Salam Charity has called upon partners and well-wishers to join the initiative to improve livelihoods and strengthen community infrastructure in Luuka, building on the positive outcomes achieved in Katakwi.
