Mayiga Urges Couples to Keep Love Alive to Sustain Marriage
Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has encouraged married couples to continually nurture and “add spice” to their relationships, saying commitment and responsibility are key to sustaining strong and lasting marriages.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on married couples to continually add “spice” to their relationships in order to keep their marriages strong and lasting.

Mayiga made the remarks at St Charles Church, Jinja–Kalooli, during a thanksgiving Mass marking 25 years of marriage for Solome Nassejje and her husband, Andrew Luyombo. The Mass was led by the Archbishop of the Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere.

Addressing the congregation, Mayiga said fear of marriage is often rooted in fear of responsibility.

“A person who fears marriage is usually afraid of responsibility. Such a person is often seen in society as irresponsible and may not be accorded the respect they deserve,” he said.

He noted that society sometimes attaches negative labels to unmarried people who are of marriageable age, which can affect their dignity.

“This is why men are sometimes labeled as irresponsible bachelors, while women are called self-settled. Such labels tend to lower a person’s respect, especially at an age when they are expected to be married,” Mayiga added.

The Katikkiro congratulated the couple upon reaching their silver jubilee and thanked them for supporting each other throughout their marriage.

“Celebrating 25 years in marriage reflects commitment, sacrifice, and standing by one another. Such partnership enables each person to fulfill their responsibilities in the family and to the nation,” he said.

Solome Nassejje serves as the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Kabaka’s Central Broadcasting Services.
