The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on children to cultivate courage and self-confidence, describing the two qualities as essential foundations for success in life.
Mayiga made the remarks at Bulange, Mengo, during a meeting with the reigning Little Miss Uganda, Abigail Serini Nankabirwa, who paid a courtesy visit to the Buganda Kingdom headquarters following her recent victory in the national competition.
Congratulating Abigail on her achievement, the Katikkiro praised her bravery and determination, noting that her courage played a key role in securing the title.
He also commended her parents for the support, guidance, and encouragement they have given her, describing parental involvement as a critical pillar in a child’s journey to success.
“The confidence and courage you demonstrated are what set you apart,” Mayiga said, adding that when children believe in themselves, they are better positioned to excel in whatever they pursue.
He further urged parents and guardians to actively support children in identifying, nurturing, and developing their talents, stressing that such support not only builds confidence but also helps young people realise their full potential.
Beyond the younger generation, the Katikkiro encouraged members of the Kabaka’s Kingdom and the wider public to embrace a culture of lifelong learning, regardless of age or circumstance.
He said continuous learning remains a key driver of both personal and societal development.
Mayiga also advised the public to engage in activities they are passionate about, observing that commitment and discipline in pursuing one’s interests significantly increase the chances of success.
The Little Miss Uganda competition aims to nurture confidence, leadership, and talent among young girls.
During the meeting, a palace official reminded attendees that genuine success is often rooted in doing what one truly loves.
During the interaction, the Katikkiro engaged Abigail on her plans for her reign. In response, she outlined initiatives aimed at positively impacting her peers and inspiring other children to pursue their dreams.
Abigail also shared that encouragement from her family and a desire to challenge herself motivated her to participate in the competition, a decision that ultimately led to her victory.
Accompanied by her parent, the young titleholder thanked the Buganda Kingdom for organising the competition and for providing a platform that empowers children to build confidence, talent, and leadership skills.
