Maria Junior Buryanshungwe Primary School in Kitagwenda District has emerged as one of Uganda’s top five best-performing primary schools in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), according to results released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
The Catholic-founded private school, located in Kicheche Sub-county and owned by Bishop Francis Aquirinus Kibira, secured fifth position nationally, marking a historic milestone for both the school and the district.
Speaking to the press, Head Teacher Sr. Bridget Abesiga expressed gratitude and pride in the achievement.
“We are grateful to God for this remarkable performance. It reflects the dedication of our teachers, the discipline of our learners, and the strong partnership we share with parents,” Sr. Abesiga said.
The school presented 51 candidates for the 2025 PLE, with outstanding results across the board: one pupil scored Aggregate 4, 26 pupils obtained Aggregate 5, 16 scored Aggregate 6, six scored Aggregate 7, and the remaining candidates attained Aggregates 8, 9, and 10.
Sr. Abesiga credited the success to teamwork, discipline, and consistent learner support.
“When teachers and parents work together with a shared goal, learners excel. This result proves that teamwork and discipline yield success,” she added.
At the district level, Maria Junior Buryanshungwe ranked first in Kitagwenda, followed by Ntara Christian Primary School in second place and Ntara Primary School in third.
Education stakeholders have widely praised the school’s achievement, noting that the national recognition firmly places Kitagwenda on Uganda’s academic excellence map.
The performance is expected to inspire other schools in the region to strengthen teaching standards and learner support systems, with Maria Junior Buryanshungwe continuing to serve as a beacon of educational excellence.
