Kaziimba Begins Four-Day Pastoral and Farewell Visit to Kigezi Diocese

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, on Thursday afternoon arrived in Kigezi Diocese for a four-day pastoral and farewell visit ahead of his retirement.

Archbishop Kaziimba is scheduled to retire on August 14, 2027, upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65, in accordance with the Canons of the Church of Uganda.

He was accompanied by his chaplain, Rev. Johnson Kansiime.

Upon arrival at Rwahi, the Archbishop was warmly received by the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, the Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, and his wife, Ms Charity Akanjuna.

He was also welcomed by retired bishops Rt Rev Eng George Bagamuhunda and Rt. Rev. Dr. William Rukirande, alongside clergy and members of the Christian community.

Later today, Archbishop Kaziimba is expected to officially open the Diocese of Kigezi Annual Brethren Conference at the Convention Centre in Rugarama, Kabale Municipality.

The conference brings together Anglican men from across the diocese for fellowship, teaching and spiritual renewal.

Archbishop Kaziimba has been leading a series of pastoral visits across dioceses as part of his wider engagement with clergy and laity during the final years of his tenure as the spiritual head of the Church of Uganda.
