Arua-based businessman and founder of KK Group, Taban Idro Senior, has been awarded the Mustard Seed Award in recognition of his contribution to entrepreneurship, investment and Uganda’s economic transformation.
The award was presented by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during the inaugural Mustard Seed Awards Dinner held at the Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo, which brought together leading entrepreneurs and industrialists from across the country.
Taban Idro Senior was recognised for building one of Uganda’s most diversified indigenous business groups, which operates in transport and logistics, real estate, hospitality, mining and education. His business journey began more than four decades ago in Arua with small-scale trading, later expanding into transport and logistics before evolving into the multi-million-dollar KK Group.
While addressing the ceremony, President Museveni commended the award recipients for supporting Uganda’s industrialisation agenda, promoting value addition and driving private sector-led development through investment and job creation.
The Mustard Seed Awards are aimed at recognising entrepreneurs whose investments have demonstrated measurable impact on employment, regional development and national economic growth.
The award was received on Idro Senior’s behalf by his son, Taban Idro Jr, a director at KK Group and managing director of KK Travellers, alongside his wife, Pamela A. Taban, the general manager of Sanyu FM.
Organisers and industry observers said the recognition highlights the role of long-term, regionally rooted investment in driving inclusive economic growth, particularly outside Uganda’s major urban centres.
