Legislators from Isingiro district have challenged government to channel part of Operation Wealth Creation funds into skilling the youth.
The legislators made the call while launching a training and skilling scheme for youth in the district over the weekend. The training is being conducted by Victory School of Beauty.
So far 430 people including youth have been trained in cosmetology, catering, bakery, tailoring among others.
Isingiro is one those districts where OWC has failed to pick up. Legislators attribute this to lack of skills by the people to manage those things normally given to them by the OWC officials.
Alex Bakunda, the MP for Isingiro South said it high time government channeled part of the OWC funds into skilling the youth and other people such that they can learn how to manage those things.
Similarly, the Youth Livelihood Fund has also failed to have an impact in the district because it does not emphasise the component of training.
They cited lack of enabling skills in the youth, connivance, corruption in some of the district leaders who have failed to track the progress of the youth projects.
The organisers of the training decried the increasing number of learners compared to the limited resources at hand.
They urged government to give them a hand such that they can handle a large number of learners.
Parents whose children are being skilled hailed government and pledged to support their children and organisers with food and security.
"The youth will be trained for 2 months and the legislators are optimistic the skills obtained here will enable them to develop themselves, their families and the district at large," said Justine Ayebazibwe the Woman MP for Isingiro.
