The Ministry of Works and Transport has issued a traffic alert to motorists and other road users following landslides along the Kabale–Kisoro road caused by heavy rainfall.
In a statement released on Friday evening, the ministry said the landslides had affected sections of the road, forcing motorists to expect temporary delays as engineers work to clear debris and restore normal traffic flow.
The ministry urged road users to follow traffic guidance on site and to exercise patience as clearance operations progress.
According to officials, the landslides occurred near the Kanaba security checkpoint after heavy downpours rendered parts of the road impassable for several hours, leading to traffic disruption.
“All motorists are informed that landslides occurred near Kanaba security checkpoint along the Kabale–Kisoro road following heavy rains. Please drive with caution as we share updates on work progress,” said Allan Ssempebwa, the senior public relations officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport.
He added that a station team had been deployed to the affected area and was working to normalise the situation as quickly as possible.
The alert comes as the ministry continues a nationwide road safety campaign aimed at reducing accidents and fatalities, particularly during the festive season.
The campaign has included interventions such as repainting zebra crossings, including in Lugazi Town, to improve pedestrian safety.
The Ministry of Works and Transport advised all motorists and road users to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to landslides during the rainy season, as weather conditions continue to pose risks to road safety.
