The Uganda Police Force has marked a year of professionalism, resilience, and growing international recognition, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Donald Muhwezi, Chief Liaison Officer for the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Speaking on NBS Frontline on Thursday, Muhwezi highlighted the force’s successful management of major national and international events, earning the confidence of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and foreign security agencies.
“We have had big events in this country, for example CHAN, that were managed very well by us. When CAF was looking for security operatives for AFCON in Morocco, they took some of our officers to support the Moroccan police,” he said.
Muhwezi described the deployment of Ugandan officers to assist in securing the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco as a significant vote of confidence in the competence and discipline of the Uganda Police Force.
He also emphasized that policing is a continuous responsibility with no downtime, praising officers for their dedication throughout the year.
“We’ve had a good year as the Uganda Police. While other institutions have breaks, for us we work nonstop and we’ve done well,” he said.
Reflecting candidly on public perceptions of policing, Muhwezi warned that uncritical praise without accountability can indicate underlying issues.
“When we deploy a police officer in an area and we hear people praising them with no one complaining, we know that there is a problem,” he noted, stressing the importance of balanced community feedback and oversight.
Muhwezi’s remarks come amid ongoing public debate about police conduct, professionalism, and community relations in Uganda.
His comments highlighted both the achievements of the force and the vigilance required to sustain public trust.
The Uganda Police Force continues to play a central role in maintaining law and order across the country, particularly during large-scale events and high-security operations, positioning itself as a reliable security partner both locally and internationally.
