Bubaare Catholic Parish in Ibanda District has unveiled a Shs3.5 billion commercial construction project aimed at strengthening the parish’s financial sustainability while supporting its pastoral and social mission.

The ambitious project was officially launched on Christmas Day shortly after Holy Mass at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, sparking excitement and optimism among parishioners.

According to parish leaders, the commercial complex will be developed on the parish’s land along the Ibanda–Fort Portal Road, a prime location on the town’s main street. The development will consist of several commercial buildings designed to generate long-term income for the parish.

The Chairperson of the Parish Council, Aloysius Kasingye, said the project is a strategic initiative intended to ensure financial stability and reduce the parish’s dependence on offertories and donations.

“This project is intended to provide a stable and sustainable source of income for our parish. Once completed, it will support church activities and ease the burden of overreliance on offertories and donations,” Kasingye said.

He added that construction is expected to be completed within one year and called on Christians to fully support the initiative.

“We appeal to all Christians to take ownership of this project. Through unity and collective effort, we can mobilise the required resources and complete it within the planned timeframe,” he noted.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Eladius Tailo, revealed that the project has received full approval from the Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha, and urged parishioners to rally behind it.

“This project has the full endorsement of the Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese. I therefore encourage all Christians to support it wholeheartedly, because it will benefit not only the parish but also future generations,” Fr. Tailo said.

Bubaare Catholic Parish (St. Charles Lwanga) is one of the notable parishes within the Archdiocese of Mbarara. Established on January 1, 2010, it is currently served by the Apostles of Jesus Religious Order, which has played a key role in nurturing the parish’s spiritual growth and development.

Parish leaders expressed confidence that the commercial project will not only enhance the church’s financial independence but also contribute to the socio-economic development of the surrounding community through increased business activity and employment opportunities.
