The newly consecrated Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Rt Rev Grace Lubaale, on Christmas Day led his first Christmas service at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe, drawing a large and diverse congregation of Christians and leaders from across the region.
The service marked Bishop Lubaale’s first major public worship since his consecration and enthronement as the fourth Bishop of Busoga Diocese.
It attracted government officials, politicians, clergy, youth groups, and hundreds of faithful who gathered to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
In his Christmas message, Bishop Lubaale urged Christians to celebrate the season with joy and hope, reminding them that Christmas signifies the coming of the Lord to save humanity.
He called on believers to reflect on the true meaning of Christ’s birth and to live lives rooted in love, humility, and service to others.
During a special prayer, the Bishop remembered ghetto youths in the congregation, asking God to guide, protect, and uplift them.
He encouraged the Church to focus more on young people, noting that they are central to the future of both the Church and society.
Bishop Lubaale also called on Christians to raise their children in faith, saying this would strengthen the Church and expand God’s ministry.
He emphasized nurturing morally upright and spiritually grounded families as a foundation for a strong Christian community.
Addressing the country’s current political climate, the Bishop appealed to security agencies to exercise restraint during the ongoing political season.
He called on authorities to allow all political candidates to campaign freely and peacefully, arguing that this would enable voters to make informed decisions on polling day.
Speaking on behalf of the government, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, congratulated Bishop Lubaale on his elevation.
The Minister, a childhood friend of the Bishop, urged Christians in Busoga to work closely with him to transform the Diocese spiritually and socially.
Minister Barugahara also demonstrated government support by donating three million shillings towards the refurbishment of Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe.
The Christmas service was marked by prayer, praise, and celebration, as Christians welcomed a new chapter of leadership in the Busoga Diocese under Bishop Grace Lubaale.
