Police in Nakasongola District have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run accident in which two residents of Lwampanga Town Council lost their lives on Tuesday night.
The deceased have been identified as David Semanda (35), a resident of GISO, Lwampanga Town Council, and Mande Robert (60), the LC I Chairperson of Lwampanga Village.
The accident occurred at about 7:30pm on December 23, 2025, along the Nakasongola Town–Nakasongola Army Barracks Road in Molwe Village.
According to police, the two were riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UG 4879C, heading towards the Army Barracks when they were hit from behind by a speeding, unidentified motor vehicle.
“The motorcycle was ahead, travelling in the same direction from Nakasongola Town. The unknown vehicle, which was reportedly over-speeding, rammed the motorcycle from behind, resulting in the instant death of both the rider and the passenger,” said ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson.
ASP Twiineamazima added that the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash and remains at large.
“The bodies were conveyed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary pending post-mortem examination, while the motorcycle has been parked at Nakasongola Police Station for inspection,” he said.
It is alleged that the deceased were returning from a political meeting convened by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja at Nakasongola District Headquarters, which brought together NRM leaders to mobilise support for President Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Police have appealed to the public to assist with investigations.
“We urge anyone with information that may help identify the suspect vehicle to report to Nakasongola Police Station. We also remind all road users to observe speed limits and exercise extra caution, especially at night,” ASP Twiineamazima said.
Investigations are ongoing as police intensify efforts to trace and apprehend the driver responsible for the crash.
