The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) fourth Infantry Division, in collaboration with other security agencies and local communities, conducted a series of community-focused initiatives across Gulu City to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Tarehe Sita.
The activities, carried out in Bardege-Layibi, Laroo-Pece, and the Central Business District, included citywide clean-ups of streets, markets, and public spaces, sanitation exercises at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, and a medical outreach clinic at Pece Seed Secondary School.
These initiatives highlighted the UPDF’s commitment to public health, environmental sanitation, and community well-being.
During the activities, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4 Infantry Division, praised President Museveni for fostering a professional and disciplined force capable of safeguarding Uganda’s stability and sovereignty.
Busizoori emphasized that Tarehe Sita represents more than a historical milestone, symbolizing unity and civil–military cooperation.
“Tarehe Sita is not just a day. It represents the values that bind the UPDF and the people, and our shared responsibility to build a peaceful and prosperous country,” he said.
He encouraged residents of the Acholi sub-region and West Nile to utilize the free static medical and surgical services provided by the UPDF as part of the anniversary celebrations.
The UPDF also donated assorted items to support livelihoods for community groups, including mechanics, boda boda riders, and garage operators, while promoting hygiene and public health standards.
The event brought together senior UPDF officers, security agencies, local government officials, and community members, demonstrating strong collaboration in commemorating Tarehe Sita and reinforcing civil–military partnerships.
