Luweero: Security Forces Call For Peace ,Unity Ahead of 2026 Polls

Security forces  in greater Luweero region have assured people in the area sufficient security as the country heads into the forthcoming 2026 elections, calling on citizens and political actors to maintain peace and unity.

Speaking during Tarehe Sita community activities in Greater Luwero, Maj. Gen. Charles Byanyima, the UPDF Commander Motorized Infantry Division, urged the public to reject violence and any actions that could destabilize the country.

“The UPDF is fully prepared to provide security before, during, and after the elections. We will protect lives and property, and we shall not allow anyone to disturb the peace of this country,” Maj. Gen. Byanyima said.

He warned that individuals or groups attempting to undermine national stability would face firm action, stressing that the army remains committed to defending the gains of the revolution.

“These three districts including, Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Luweero are the foundation of our liberation. Anyone acting against the peace of the country will be dealt with accordingly. Our duty is to defend the gains of the revolution and ensure a peaceful democratic process,” he added.

Byanyima further noted that Tarehe Sita commemorates the start of the liberation struggle in 1981 and symbolizes the strong bond between the UPDF and the people, a relationship he said continues to foster unity, peace, and development.

Luwero District Speaker, Derrick Kibirango, commended the security forces for engaging in community service and appealed for calm ahead of the elections.

“The liberation agenda was born in Greater Luwero, and it is our responsibility as citizens to protect peace as the country prepares for elections,” Kibirango said.

The district Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Abel Bakunda, praised the UPDF for being a people-centered and disciplined force, crediting the Fountain of Honour for building an army that prioritizes civilians.

“The UPDF is unique because it puts the people first. We must stand together to reject hate messages and safeguard the gains that have brought peace and stability to our country,” Bakunda said.

As part of the Tarehe Sita activities, UPDF and Police personnel carried out a massive cleaning exercise at Luwero Main Hospital, Kasana Central Market, Luwero Central Market, Balikyejusa roadside, Balikywunya Junction in Busula Town Council, Wobulenzi Town Council, streets within Luwero Town Council, Kiwooko Road Junction and Kiwooko Town Council in Nakaseke district,

The Greater Luweero regional Tarehe Sita activities will conclude in Nakasongola District, as security agencies reiterate their commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and security throughout the election period.
