The Mufti made the remarks while closing the 6th Annual Muslim Youth Career Guidance and Counselling Seminar, organised by the Budaka District Muslim Youth Da’wah and Development Association, and held at Budaka Muslim Primary School sports grounds.
“This country needs morally upright and responsible youth for stability and development,” Dr Sheikh Mubaje said. “Do not allow yourselves to be manipulated into violence by greedy politicians. Elect leaders based on inclusive development programmes, not ethnicity or religion.”
Held under the theme “Empowering Youth in Socio-Economic Development,” the seminar focused on equipping young people with practical skills and values to enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Dr Rehema Kaggwa addressed participants on financial literacy and responsible economic planning, while Muzafar Ngujja emphasised the importance of balancing Islamic theological education with secular studies.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Muhamood Kaale, a student at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), and Hassan Nsenye, the Chairperson of the Budaka District Muslim Youth Da’wah and Development Association, called for increased investment in youth-led initiatives.
“Our young people have ideas and energy but need support to translate them into sustainable development,” Kaale noted.
Representing the government, Haj Huzairu Kimbugwe urged the youth to remain disciplined and respectful, noting that development begins with responsibility and respect for leadership and elders.
Patrick Kabazi praised interfaith cooperation in the district and appealed to the Mufti to support the establishment of a health facility to serve the community.
Dr Sheikh Ahmad Hamid Wadenga and Sheikh Muzamir Hassan Kidandaire also briefed participants on the state of Muslim affairs in the Eastern Region and Budaka District respectively.
In a show of commitment to youth empowerment, the Mufti pledged Shs10 million to support Muslim youth programmes and encouraged Imams to register for the ongoing SACCO initiatives ahead of the anticipated Presidential pledge.
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including Dr Sheikh Ahmad Hamid Wadenga, the Eastern Regional Assistant to the Mufti; Sheikh Muzamir Hassan Kidandaire, the Kadhi of Budaka Muslim District; Haj Huzairu Kimbugwe, the Budaka Resident District Commissioner; Pajje Emanuel, the LC V Chairperson; and the Mayor of Budaka Town Council, alongside Muslim leaders from various administrative levels.
The seminar concluded with renewed calls for unity, responsible leadership, and sustained investment in youth as key drivers of socio-economic transformation.
