The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Monday hosted Hugues Chantry, the Ambassador of Belgium to Uganda, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe.

The high-level meeting marks the continuation of bilateral discussions that began in September 2024, reflecting the steady strengthening of relations between Uganda and Belgium.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed areas of mutual interest, particularly in the fields of security cooperation, regional stability, and defence partnerships. Both underscored the shared commitment to advancing peace and stability across the Great Lakes region.

“Uganda greatly values Belgium’s longstanding partnership and its support for regional peace initiatives. Our cooperation has always been rooted in mutual respect and shared goals for a safer and more stable region,” he said.

Chantry commended Uganda’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in East and Central Africa, noting the importance of continued collaboration between Kampala and Brussels.

“Belgium appreciates Uganda’s vital role in promoting regional stability. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster peace, development, and security across the region,” he said.

The meeting also revisited the framework established under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) first signed in 1995, which laid the foundation for defence and security cooperation between the two nations. Both parties agreed to explore further opportunities to modernize and expand the partnership in line with evolving regional dynamics.

This engagement highlights the enduring nature of Uganda–Belgium relations, anchored in decades of diplomatic collaboration and a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous Africa.
