Two people were confirmed dead following a fatal accident on the Masaka–Kampala highway after a trailer loaded with rice from Tanzania crashed into a motorcycle at Ndikutta Madda, a known accident-prone section between Mpugwe and Matanga villages in Masaka District.
The ten-wheeler trailer, registration number T 722/T311 EMW, which was reportedly transporting rice to Kisenyi in Kampala, is said to have lost control while overtaking two vehicles and rammed into a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UGE 194K, carrying three people.
Eyewitnesses said two of the motorcycle occupants died on the spot, while the third was rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.
The trailer driver and his turn boy reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Residents described Ndikutta Madda as a “death trap,” citing poor road design and the absence of humps as major causes of repeated accidents at the site.
Masaka Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the incident, saying investigations were underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
