The Uganda High Commission accredited to Zambia recently concluded a week-long series of initiatives aimed at engaging the Ugandan diaspora and promoting tourism to Zambia’s market.

The activities underscored Uganda’s commitment to strengthening ties with citizens abroad while showcasing the country’s diverse tourism offerings.

The engagement began with a Diaspora Outreach and National Identification and Registration Authority exercise, bringing government services closer to Ugandans living in Zambia.

Hundreds of Ugandans were able to register or update their national identification details, enhancing access to government services and reinforcing their connection to home.

Amb Col (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Zambia, interacted directly with the community, reaffirming the country’s commitment to an inclusive and responsive diaspora policy.

Following this, the Mission hosted the first-ever Uganda Tourism Roadshow in Zambia under the theme, “Experience the Pearl of Africa.”

The event highlighted Uganda’s tourism attractions, including gorilla trekking, adventure safaris, cultural heritage, and culinary experiences.

It also brought together Zambian destination marketing companies, tour operators, and travel agencies to connect with Uganda’s leading tourism institutions and private sector players.

The Roadshow was attended by Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, Uganda’s Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, who emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in promoting Africa as a shared tourism destination.

He praised the enthusiasm of the Zambian tourism fraternity and expressed optimism for developing multi-destination packages linking Zambia and Uganda.

The series of engagements culminated in Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations on 19th October 2025 at the Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.
