Storm Ravages Four Villages in Tororo, Leaving 18 Families Homeless

A violent storm has ravaged four villages in Akadot Sub-county, Tororo North County, leaving at least 18 families homeless after strong winds blew the roofs off their houses.

The affected villages include Kateki in Kabiro Parish, Kayoro D, Atari A, and Kabiro Village.

The storm, which followed a heavy downpour on Tuesday, also unroofed two classroom blocks and two latrine stances at Kabiro Primary School, disrupting learning activities.

In addition, Kabiro Church of Uganda lost its roof, leaving worshippers without a place of prayer.

While assessing the damage, district officials described the situation as dire and called for urgent government support.

“Most of the families are now homeless, and this needs urgent government intervention. Look at that school—the destroyed classrooms were meant to host examinations. We need quick action from the government,” said District Chairperson John Okea.

Peter Langa Langa, the area district councillor, said many families had also lost household property and crops. “Many families are now living with relatives who are already overwhelmed. We appeal to the government to come and rescue our people from this terrible situation,” he said.

The disaster is a major setback for the community, which was still recovering from a similar storm earlier this year that destroyed more than 18 houses in the same sub-county.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner Tororo, Albert Amula, who visited the affected areas, confirmed the seriousness of the situation and pledged to escalate the matter to relevant authorities for immediate response.
