Presidential Candidate General (Rtd) Greggory Mugisha Muntu has kicked off his campaigns in Kawempe, where he pledged to tackle poverty, improve housing, and fight corruption if elected.
Addressing supporters at Kawempe Muslim Primary School playground, popularly known as Kawempe ku Taano, Muntu said residents face multiple challenges including exploitative lending, widespread poverty, and lack of opportunities for the growing urban population.
“Kampala’s population is growing very fast, but the city’s plan is not changing. We must provide good and affordable housing, clean water, and power for all Kampala people,” Muntu told the crowd.
He also promised to ensure that urban residents have jobs or businesses that can sustain their families, noting that not everyone in the city has access to farmland to grow food.
Muntu emphasized that paying off the country’s debts, improving drug supply in hospitals, and paying government employees well are only possible with a disciplined and corruption-free team in leadership.
Residents welcomed his message but expressed fears of vote rigging, asking Muntu how he plans to protect their votes.
Muntu also urged the opposition to work together instead of clashing among themselves, warning that divisions only benefit their opponents.
Muntu further demanded the release of all political prisoners, saying democracy cannot thrive when citizens are detained for their political beliefs.
