Ministry of Gender rolls out Social assistance grant to empower senior citizens in Uganda

The government of Uganda through the ministry of Gender, Labour and social development has rolled out the social assistance grant for empowerment with the intention to reduce chronic poverty in Vulnerable individuals so that they can support consumption, build assets and improve health and education outcomes and also increase their financial security and capacity to cope with shocks and invest in the future.

The program will involve management information system to ensure efficient delivery and includes mechanisms for monitoring and handling complaints.

'The program will start in districts like Amudat, Karenga, Zombo, Madi-Okolo, Kamwenge, Luweero, Pader, Kwania, Amolatar, Kalaki, Butebo, Fortportal City, Masaka, Jinja, Mbale city, Bundibugyo and will handle another six districts the following week until the whole country is covered ' said Sight Musinguzi, the communication officer at Ministry of Gender.

The Money being delivered is for quarter 1 financial year 2025/2026 and government allocated 121 Billion according to the national budget.

"The older people are demanding for reduction of eligibility age and increment of grant and also appreciate this government program but say it can no longer meet their needs' added Sight Musinguzi.
