The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has rallied Baganda leaders in the United Arab Emirates to embrace service-oriented leadership, stressing that true authority is earned through integrity, performance, and dedication to the people.
Meeting leaders from Buwalabu County at the Sheraton Creek Hotel in Dubai, Mayiga reminded them that leadership should not be reduced to titles but measured by action.
“Leadership is about service, not titles,” he said.
“When a leader fulfills their responsibilities with dedication, people recognize and support them. But if a leader fails, they are defeated—because just like a song is held together by its rhythm, leadership is held together by consistent action.”
He applauded the diaspora leaders for keeping Buganda’s spirit alive abroad and emphasized that their roles remain vital to the Kingdom’s advancement.
Buganda’s Minister for Local Government and Foreign Affairs, Joseph Kawuki, urged the leaders to remain diligent, saying service to the Kingdom abroad strengthens both personal growth and collective prosperity.
“What you do for your Kingdom abroad is as important as what is done at home. It shapes your leadership, earns you respect, and most importantly, strengthens the unity and prosperity of Buganda,” he noted.
The Kabaka’s representative in the UAE, Sheikh Abbas Nsubuga, praised Mayiga’s “visionary and inspirational leadership,” urging his colleagues to emulate the Katikkiro’s example.
“The Katikkiro’s leadership is a beacon for us all. His visit has not only inspired us but also reminded us of our responsibilities to Buganda,” he said.
Also present was Ssalongo Robert Sserwanga, Minister for Youth, Sports, and Talent, alongside other Buganda Kingdom officials.
Discussions focused on diaspora engagement, community mobilization, and promoting Buganda’s cultural heritage internationally.
The engagement highlighted Buganda’s commitment to strengthening ties with its people abroad while mobilizing collective efforts toward cultural preservation and socio-economic development.
