Uganda and Venezuela Reaffirm Commitment to Deepening Bilateral Ties
Uganda and Venezuela have pledged to strengthen their relations through new cooperation frameworks, with Kampala’s Foreign Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakhar set to address an international forum on colonialism in Caracas next month.

KAMPALA – Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Abubakhar Jeje Odongo, on September 9 met Ms Fatima Fernandes Juarez, ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to reaffirm commitments to expand bilateral relations.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gen Odongo praised the warm ties between the two countries, while Amb Juarez thanked the Ugandan government for the hospitality she has enjoyed since taking up her posting earlier this year.

Ambassador Juarez delivered an invitation from Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil for Gen Odongo to be a keynote speaker at the International Forum on “Colonialism, Neocolonialism and their Consequences,” scheduled for October 2–3 in Caracas.

The gathering will examine the legacy of colonial rule and modern forms of neocolonialism, including financial domination, territorial disputes, and calls for reparations.

She also proposed the creation of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) to further institutionalise cooperation, with discussions slated for March 2025.

In his response, Gen Odongo reaffirmed Uganda’s solidarity with Venezuela and its readiness to expand bilateral cooperation.

He noted that the two countries also share interests in multilateral forums, particularly in advocating for historical justice, peace, and economic independence.

Both delegations concluded the meeting by underscoring their determination to deepen cooperation based on friendship and mutual respect.
