Seasonal flooding has once again wreaked havoc in Laropi Sub-county, heavily affecting residents of Panyanga Parish in Moyo District.

The floods swept away domestic animals and poultry, destroyed houses and latrines, and forced several households to flee for safety.

Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, the Police Public Relations Officer for the North West Nile Region, confirmed that the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, have visited the affected areas to safeguard both lives and property.

“We stand with the affected communities, but we also ensure that law and order, including the protection of property, remains paramount during such emergencies,” SP Asea stated.

He further cautioned residents against re-occupying flood-prone areas, stressing the need for continuous sensitisation by local authorities and humanitarian actors.

Earlier on Moyo District leaders, accompanied by the UPDF and police, swiftly moved to the disaster-hit areas to coordinate emergency response.

After touring the affected communities, Moyo District Chairperson Williams Anyama described the situation as “dire.”

He noted that an emergency team is already on the ground conducting assessments and assured the public that a comprehensive press statement would be released after the evaluation.

Heavy downpours continue to ravage the Ma'di sub-region, damaging road networks, destroying properties, and affecting access to basic social services such as health facilities and local markets.
