Thousands of people thronged Kololo Independence Grounds and major towns across the country to take part in the 14th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run, reaffirming a united commitment to the fight against cancer.
Held under the theme “Many Cancers, One Race”, this year’s run is focused on raising funds for the completion of two bunkers that will house Linear Accelerator (LINAC) cancer treatment machines at the Rotary Cancer Centre, Nsambya Hospital — a milestone expected to significantly expand access to advanced cancer care in Uganda.
Centenary Bank, Uganda’s largest indigenous bank, once again stood out as a platinum sponsor, contributing over shs600 million towards the initiative. Since the run’s inception, the bank has donated more than shs3 billion to the cause, underscoring its long-standing partnership with Rotary International.
Speaking at the run, Centenary Bank Managing Director, Dr. Fabian Kasi, thanked participants and partners for their support.
“You have given partners like Centenary Bank a chance at making a difference in the health sector, particularly in cancer. This year we were honoured to support and participate in the nation-wide medical camps that Rotary organised prior to the run, where attendees were taken through important medical checks, blood donation drives and education on early cancer detection,” he said.
Beyond the run, the Bank’s support has extended to over 150 health camps, construction of the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Centre, installation of radiotherapy bunkers, and numerous other Rotary-led initiatives in health, education, peacebuilding, environmental stewardship, and church-led social missions.
As part of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) mandate, Centenary Bank dedicates 2% of its net profit annually to corporate social investment, funding projects such as hospital support, school infrastructure, waste management, sanitation, tree planting, and financial literacy programs.
The Rotary Cancer Run continues to grow as a powerful movement for collective action against cancer, and Centenary Bank has pledged to remain a steadfast partner in building a healthier and stronger Uganda.
