Police have started investigations into a robbery in which thugs broke into a supermarket, tied up the owners before robbing them of over shs40 million.
The incident according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigiyre, the incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at Save More supermarket in Kyengera town.
“It is alleged that three unknown assailants attacked the owners of the supermarket, tied them up and robbed them of shs24 million and US$5000,”Owoyesigyire said.
It is said that the three assailants broke into the supermarket through the back door leading them to the counter and the owners’ bedroom from where they tied them up on their beds and robbed the supermarket.
Security guard disappears
The Nile Post has also learnt Dan Baliddawa, a security guard with Vision Security Limited who had been deployed to guard the supermarket abandoned his gun and was nowhere to be seen after the robbery.
“We are still looking for him(Baliddawa) to help us in the investigations into what happened,” the police mouthpiece said.
Of late, the number of cases in which private security guards have robbed or aided in robberies have increased in various parts of the country.
In 2015, two security guards were arrested for robbing Xinhua Supermarket in Nakulabye on Christmas night by climbing to the top of the building before falling into the supermarket.
When the owners of the supermarket opened the following day, the guards were nowhere to be seen and on checking CCTV cameras footage, they found out that guards had walked away with shs20 million cash and watches worth shs8 million.
In 2014, three private security guards were arrested for breaking into Medical Research Council offices in Masaka.
In 2007, a security guard attached to Group 4 Securicor was arrested over robbery of Stanbic bank in Kampala.
