Political analyst Yusuf Serunkuma has questioned the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) handling of its senior members, arguing that former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga deserves special recognition within the party.
Serunkuma said if the NRM were operating as a serious political party, Kadaga should be elevated to the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) as a non-elected member, given her long record of service.
“If NRM were a serious political party, I think Rebecca Kadaga deserves to be a non-elected member of CEC given what she has done for the party,” he noted.
He also cast doubt on the contribution of NRM vice-chairperson Hajj Moses Kigongo, questioning why President Yoweri Museveni continues to shield him from competition.
“I don’t know what Hajj Kigongo has done that the President would bully anyone who wants to stand against him to step down,” Serunkuma said.
The analyst further described the NRM as a movement rather than a political party, saying it should uphold iconic figures without subjecting them to electoral contests.
“This thing we call NRM, which we tend to refer to as a political party, is supposed to be a movement with icons you don’t submit to a vote,” he added.
