Sheikh Abdallah Sajid Mutyaaba has etched his name in history as the first Ugandan judge at the 45th King Abdul Aziz International Quran Competition, held in Saudi Arabia. This prestigious competition, which has been running since 1980, saw participation from 128 countries and 167 contestants, including two representatives from Uganda.
Upon his return, Sheikh Mutyaaba was accorded a warm welcome by Sheikh Hamid Sseruwadda, Regional Assistant to the Mufti of Uganda, Kampala District, and his students from Markaz Darul Ulum Al Islamiya Buddo. During the reception, Sheikh Mutyaaba urged parents to encourage their children to memorise the Quran, emphasising that it would bring benefits that would change their lives and impact their communities positively.
"Parents should take their children to memorise the Quran," Sheikh Mutyaaba said. "They will never lose out. The prizes won by participants will transform their lives, their parents, and the entire community."
In a related call, Sheikh Hamid Sseruwadda emphasised the importance of prioritising the Quran and living disciplined lives. "Muslims worldwide should seek guidance from the Holy Book to stay on the right path," he advised.
In recognition of Sheikh Mutyaaba's achievement, Sheikh Sseruwadda presented him with a gift, celebrating his milestone as Uganda's first judge at the international Quran competition.
The 45th King Abdul Aziz International Quran Competition serves as a platform for Muslims worldwide to engage with the Holy Book and showcase their knowledge and recitation skills. Sheikh Mutyaaba's appointment as a judge is a testament to his expertise and dedication to Quranic scholarship.
This achievement has brought pride to Uganda's Muslim community, highlighting the importance of investing in Quranic education and promoting Islamic values.
