Lead with Discipline, Inspire with Action, Gen Muhoozi Urges Police Commanders

The State Minister for Internal Affairs, has tipped senior police commander on how to effectively lead their troops.

“You're not a leader until you are ratified in the hearts and minds of those you lead and as leaders, you will also manage resources including the most important of all, the human resource,” Gen Muhoozi said.

He was on Thursday speaking during the graduation of 41 senior police and prison commanders at the Senior Police Staff and Command College in Bwebajja, Wakiso Districts.

The minister said as commanders, they ought to put into practice whatever they have learnt during the 11 months course.

“You cannot effectively an effectively lead until you  put in  practice what you learned in this course. We trust that from here , you  will lead better,  you will manage better and that you will cause positive transformation in your workstations.”

He also urged the senior police commanders to keep the friends they have met during the training course.

“The  networks you forge on this course are also very important and even outlast your service. You should make the most out of  the friends you’ve made. They should be your friends beyond the force and this also opens opportunities for all of you and in the work you do.”

Gen Muhoozi also urged the officers to nurture links between the various security agencies for the benefit of the country.

He applauded the Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba for helping streamline the force towards the vision envisaged by President Museveni.

The Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba said the course is intended to mold senior police commanders to take on several challenges.

“Crime is increasingly transnational, digital and sophisticated and consequently, training and the transformative leadership is required to leverage on the existing security architecture,” Byakagaba said.

“We must appreciate that security remains a very critical ingredient that underpinning planning and execution of state programs for social economic transformation of our people indeed all into the strategic guidance and vision and leadership of the president.”

He urged commanders to always have in mind that Uganda “remains an island of peace” in the Great Lakes region and as a result, the same should be guarded jealously.

The commandant of the school,  Barbra Elungat said the course that started in August last year aimed to develop leadership, command and research competences for the senior officers to meet contemporary law enforcement demands.
