Former Ambassador Angualia Dies in Motorcycle Crash in Arua

Former Ugandan Ambassador to Egypt and the Middle East, Louis Richard Angualia, has died in a tragic motorcycle accident in Arua City.

The fatal crash occurred around 5pm near Abi Farm in Ayivu East Constituency when Ambassador Angualia, who was riding a Bajaj motorcycle, collided head-on with another rider. He died instantly at the scene.

Confirming the incident, West Nile Region Police spokesperson Collins Asea said, “True, our traffic officers are on the ground. More details will follow.”

News of Angualia’s sudden death has sent shockwaves across the West Nile sub-region and beyond, as tributes pour in from those who remember his contributions to diplomacy, politics, and academia.

Born in Maracha District, Angualia attended Liria Primary School and later St. Joseph’s College Ombaci.

He studied at Makerere University, where he once ran for Guild President.

He began his career in public service as Town Clerk for Arua before moving to the Ministry of Water.

He later joined the diplomatic corps and served as Uganda’s Ambassador to Egypt and the Middle East, where he was praised for his dedication and professionalism.

Angualia was also active in elective politics. In 2011, he contested for the Maracha County parliamentary seat but lost to Alex Onzima Adroa.

After the district was split into two constituencies in 2016, he ran for the Maracha seat, losing to Hon. Oguzu Lee Denis.

In 2020, he shifted his focus to Maracha East Constituency, contesting in the NRM primaries but was defeated by Ruth Molly Lematia Ondoru.

More recently, he dedicated himself to academia, lecturing at Kyambogo University and the Uganda Management Institute, where he was respected for his passion for leadership and education.

Ambassador Angualia's passing marks the end of a long and distinguished career in public service.

He is remembered as a committed servant of the nation whose contributions left a lasting impact.
