Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo has criticised the recently concluded NRM primaries, describing them as a “mockery of democracy” marred by irregularities and the alleged hijacking of the people’s will.
Ssekikubo, a vocal NRM legislator, expressed frustration over what he termed the “grabbing of the people’s mandate” in his constituency, claiming the process lacked fairness and transparency.
“What happened in Lwemiyaga was a mockery of democracy. The final outcome was the grabbing of the people’s mandate,” he said.
Despite the controversy, Ssekikubo reaffirmed his strong support from constituents, saying their continued confidence in him reflects their trust and political awareness.
“The people of Lwemiyaga are not unwise. If I was useless, they wouldn’t be voting me consecutively all these years,” he stated.
He also underscored the importance of participating in the party’s internal processes, insisting that engagement is crucial regardless of the challenges.
“We are not here to play games. We participate in these primaries because we know that the President will be there for all of us,” Ssekikubo added.
The Lwemiyaga MP has been a consistent critic of irregularities in electoral processes, often positioning himself as a defender of democratic values within the ruling party.
