The Democratic Front (DF) has condemned the violence and election malpractices that marred the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries held yesterday.
The NRM primaries were conducted to select flag bearers for the 2026 general elections at the parliamentary level.
According to Henry Lubowa, Chairperson of the DF's Electoral Commission, the violence and malpractices exhibited in the NRM primaries send a "dangerous signal of what is likely to happen in the 2026 general elections".
Lubowa stated that "this violence is likely to be exported to the general elections", calling on Ugandans to condemn these acts of violence and to reject and blacklist all NRM candidates who secured tickets through violence and malpractices.
The DF's comments were echoed during today's return of expression of interest forms and nomination of party members aspiring for different political offices at all levels.
These candidates expressed their desire to contest for political offices due to the lack of a strong voice for the people of Luweero in the legislative arm of government.
The NRM has been working to ensure credible primaries, with the party's Electoral Commission facing the challenge of restoring confidence in the party's internal democratic processes.
