Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament, Theodore Ssekikubo, has petitioned the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, raising alarm over an alleged plot to assassinate him ahead of the party’s parliamentary primaries scheduled for Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Delivering the petition in person at the NRM EC offices on Wednesday, Ssekikubo accused his political rival Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande and Gen Phinehas Katirima of masterminding a plot to take his life after the polls.

“I am aware of plans to kill me shortly after being declared winner,” he told journalists. “These threats are real and follow an earlier attack in which one of my supporters was shot dead.”

Ssekikubo was referring to a June 26 incident in Kirega, Kampala Parish, Lwemiyaga, in which one of his supporters,  Fred Ssembusi , was fatally shot, and another, Moses Titangama, sustained serious gunshot wounds.

In a July 2 letter also copied to the Inspector General of Police, Ssekikubo claimed that the attack was executed by Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel under the command of Lt. Bashir Zziwa, allegedly acting on orders from Brig. Gen. Rwashande.

The legislator appealed for armed police protection during the remainder of the electoral process, citing credible threats to his life.

“In view of the ongoing electoral exercise, this is therefore to request for Police Protection during this period,” his letter reads in part.

Ssekikubo further called on the NRM Electoral Commission to physically oversee the primary election in Ssembabule District, warning of the potential for further violence if the process is not closely monitored.

“We want the Electoral Commission to come to Ssembabule and take charge. They should be on the ground and ensure that there is no violence,” he emphasized.

At the time of filing this report, NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi was unavailable for comment as he was reportedly in a closed-door meeting with the party’s Secretary General. However, sources confirmed that the situation in Lwemiyaga constituency was one of the pressing matters under discussion.
