Salam TV has partnered with Weli Travel to launch the 2025 edition of the Road to Makkah campaign, an initiative aimed at streamlining the Hajj and Umrah experience for Ugandan pilgrims.
The campaign brings together various Hajj companies under a single platform, with the goal of easing access, improving preparation, and connecting pilgrims more closely with their families back home.
Hajji Karim Kaliisa, a prominent voice in the Muslim community and one of the campaign’s key figures, said the initiative is a major step towards modernising what has historically been a difficult and uncertain journey.
“Uganda’s Hajj journey began in 1921 with Sheikh Ssekimwanyi. Back then, pilgrims travelled by foot and bus, taking up to six months to reach Makkah—and often with no assurance of returning,” said Hajji Kaliisa.
“Today, we celebrate how far we've come. Weli Travel has transformed that experience, making it smooth and efficient.”
Weli Travel's Head of Marketing, Hassan Said Mugisha, thanked clients for their continued trust and encouraged more Ugandans to consider joining the pilgrimage.
“Hajj is not just a journey of distance, but a journey of faith. Our packages include the presence of a professional medical doctor to prioritise the health and well-being of our pilgrims before and during the journey,” he said.
Sheikh Didaat Kakooza, who leads the Hajj and Umrah department at Weli Travel, underscored the spiritual core of the campaign.
“Hajj is a sacred act of worship, meant to draw us closer to Allah. We put great emphasis on training and preparation to equip pilgrims with the knowledge and confidence they need.”
The collaboration was formally sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding between Salam TV and Weli Travel.
Under this agreement, Weli Travel’s team will offer end-to-end guidance and support to ensure that each pilgrim completes the journey successfully and meaningfully.
As preparations intensify, the Road to Makkah campaign promises a comprehensive and well-organised experience, with Salam TV playing a key role in documenting and sharing the journey to inspire others.
Both partners say their goal is not only to facilitate the logistics of pilgrimage but also to nurture faith, unity, and unforgettable memories for all participants.
