The Muslim community around the country yesterday held a national prayer interceding for their fellow believers who are being murdered, arrested and imprisoned every other day across the country.
The main prayers for the community were led the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje who asked government to deliver justice upon Muslims who are being arrested and imprisoned over charges of murder.
Last week, the former Buyende police D.P.C Muhammed Kirumira was gunned down, continuing the string of murders that have impacted on the muslim community.
"Following the death of our brother the late Kirumira and others in prison, we gathered here to pray for our fellow Muslims who perished under those brutal killings," Mubaje said at Old Kampala mosque on Friday.
He said that in these prayers, they are not praying for only those in prison but the whole country at large including those who are being threatened.
Mubaje informed the congregation about his meeting with the Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda whom he asked to urge government to look into the grievances of the muslim community.
Sheikh Ali Juma Kibuyo, who was the first preacher, pinned government on not being honest to Muslims by arresting and torturing them, yet every citizen needs to be treated equally.
"We are asking why others are tried and bailed out yet Muslims are left in prisons," Kibuyo said.
