Different initiatives have been put in place by both government and non governmental organization to empower and skill youths.
However, according to Janat Mukwaya the minister of Gender, Labour and Social Affairs their impact hasn’t been reflected anywhere and calls for mapping of the different areas to find out where the problem could be.
Mukwaya made the remarks during a function to launch of a girl child empowerment fund worth Shs 420 million at Sheraton hotel on Tuesday.
The fund is being spearheaded by Standard Chartered Bank and Brac Uganda.
The fund will be used to aid financial literacy and life-skills training for adolescent girls.
“This fund is aimed at empowering over 3,000 girls in districts of Kampala and Wakiso," said Albert Saltson, the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank.
Mukwaya thanked the two institutions for the initiative adding that on its part, government has earmarked Shs350 billion this financial year to fund youth empowerment programs on top of what NGOs, banks and different religions put in to empower youth.
“Very many youths are on the streets doing nothing yet very many projects to empower them are rolling, we need to know where the problem is," Mukwaya said..
She said it is high time they find out which organisation does what when its comes to youth empowerment.
