The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has dismissed as false and malicious recent allegations concerning the management and financial handling of the council.
In a statement issued by UMSC spokesperson Ashiraf Zziwa, the council emphasized that all financial decisions are made following an approved budget, with no spending allowed without express council approval.
"The Mufti and the national management committee have no mandate whatsoever to spend without the council's approval," Zziwa clarified.
The statement further addressed claims that UMSC received Shs 22 billion, stating that the council’s total revenue for 2024, including government compensations and other income, amounted to Shs19 billion.
Additionally, UMSC denied allegations of spending Shs11.5 billion on legal cases, asserting that the Council has no ongoing case with or against Sheikh Semambo.
However, UMSC acknowledged a separate case involving three Muslims, including an individual named Yudaya, which followed due legal process.
Zziwa criticised some members of the Muslim community for allegedly spreading misinformation for selfish interests.
Citing verses from the Quran and Hadith, the spokesperson condemned the dissemination of falsehoods, warning of the dangers of hypocrisy and division.
"Spreading unfounded accusations harms the unity and peace of our community. Islam strongly condemns such acts," Zziwa state.
He referenced Quranic teachings that urge believers to verify information before passing judgment.
The UMSC called on all Muslims to avoid rumors and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve concerns responsibly.
"As Muslims, we are guided by the principles of truth, justice, and integrity. Let us adhere to these values, especially in times of discord," Ashiraf Zziwa urged.
