The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that the Panyimur Search & Rescue (SAR) Center, located on the shores of Lake Albert in Pakwach, is nearing completion and will soon be fully operational.

Once launched, the center is set to greatly improve emergency response capabilities, enhancing water transport safety on the lake.

Equipped with advanced technology and a dedicated team, the center aims to strengthen preparedness and ensure rapid responses during emergencies.

“The Panyimur Search & Rescue Center at the shores of Lake Albert in Pakwach is nearing completion and will soon be operational,” the Ministry stated on X (formerly Twitter). “This facility will significantly boost emergency response capabilities to enhance water transport safety on the lake.”

The center is part of the Multinational Lake Victoria Maritime Communication and Transport Project (MLVMCT), which aims to establish a network of nine SAR centers across Uganda’s inland waters.

The initiative highlights the government’s commitment to improving safety and efficiency in the country’s water transport sector.

Maritime accidents have been a persistent concern on Uganda’s inland waters, with limited rescue services often resulting in tragic consequences.

The new SAR center at Panyimur is expected to reduce such risks by providing timely emergency responses and improving overall maritime security.

As Uganda’s inland water transport sector continues to grow, officials stress the importance of ongoing investment in infrastructure and safety measures.

The completion of the Panyimur SAR Center marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to enhance water transport safety and emergency preparedness.
