Joint security forces have recovered 120 cattle stolen from Abim District after tracking down the raiders.

The stolen animals belonged to 77-year-old Jackson Okech, a resident of Adololong Central Village, Olem Parish, Alerek Sub County.

A team from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) detach in Olem responded swiftly after receiving reports of the theft.

Karamoja Police Spokesperson Mike Longole said a fire exchange ensued, forcing the criminals to abandon the cattle and flee.

“This is the second foiled cattle theft attempt in less than a week, following a similar raid in Karenga District that resulted in the recovery of 14 cows stolen in Sarachom Parish, Lobalangit Subcounty,” Longole said.

Police have emphasized that the swift response by security forces demonstrates their commitment to protecting the people of Karamoja.

Longole, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any cases of cattle theft to authorities.
