The newly appointed Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, has outlined an ambitious plan to steer the kingdom toward greater development.
Among his immediate priorities are the rehabilitation of royal tombs, the renovation of the kingdom’s parliament (Rukurato), and addressing challenges faced by counties within the kingdom.
The announcement of the new cabinet was made at midday by the King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba, during a session at the Rukurato.
The king unveiled a leadership team led by Prime Minister Rwomiire and three deputies: Harriet Nakake Abwooli, Henry Basaliza, and William Kwemara Ngabu.
Rwomiire takes over from Stephen Kiyingi Amooti, who served for two years and five months.
He is one of only three recipients of Tooro Kingdom’s highest honour, the Enkondo (Coronet), a recognition of his dedication to the kingdom.
In an exclusive interview with NBS, the new Prime Minister detailed his plans, which include the restoration of the royal tombs, the refurbishment of the Amagasani (royal homes) and the Mucwa (parliament), the recovery of Tooro’s unreturned properties, and monthly town clean-up initiatives aimed at fostering community participation and environmental conservation.
Rwomiire emphasised the trust and responsibility placed upon him by King Oyo, pledging to deliver results that uplift the kingdom’s stature within Uganda.
The announcement has been met with optimism by the people of Tooro, who view Rwomiire’s leadership as a turning point for the kingdom.
His professional background and international experience have boosted confidence in his ability to bring meaningful progress.
