Teenage Girl Dies After Jumping Off Speeding Truck

A 15-year-old girl has lost her life after jumping off a speeding pickup truck near Moroto town.

Anjellina Lomongin was travelling to Nadunget Sub County, about 10 kilometres from Moroto town, when the fatal incident occurred.

Lomongin had hitch-hiked a Nissan pickup truck, registration number UAS 679X, along with other passengers.

"During the journey, she suddenly leaped from the moving vehicle, hitting her head on the ground and dying instantly." Jessica Awas a witness said.

"I saw her suddenly jump from the truck while it was moving at high speed. She hit the ground hard, and we immediately realized she was lifeless," recounted Peter Lokiii, a resident of Nadunget Village, who witnessed the incident.

Following the incident, police arrested the driver of the vehicle and launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Authorities have not yet determined why the teenager jumped from the pick-up truck.

The identity of the driver has not been revealed to protect them.

“We have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident. Drivers must ensure the safety of all passengers during transit to prevent such tragedies,” said IP Mike Longole, Karamoja Region Police spokesperson.

In a statement, police urged drivers to prioritize passenger safety and ensure that vehicles are secure during transit to prevent such accidents.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Moroto Hospital as burial arrangements are being finalized by her family.
