Ibanda Residents Demand Urgent Water Restoration After Three-Week Shortage

Residents of Bufunda Ward in Ibanda Municipality are calling on the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to urgently restore water supply after a three-week outage caused by damage to pipes during road rehabilitation works.

The prolonged disruption has forced many to travel long distances in search of water, affecting daily life and businesses.

Speaking to the Nile Post, frustrated residents described the struggle to find clean water. “It has been over three weeks without water. We are struggling, and it is affecting our families and businesses,” one resident lamented.

Benon Kaimutsya, chairperson of Bufunda Division, highlighted the crisis's impact on institutions and businesses.

“The water shortage has severely affected our area. Schools, health facilities, and businesses all depend on a steady supply of water. I have personally engaged NWSC, but we are still waiting for action,” he said.

Health concerns are also mounting, with residents fearing potential disease outbreaks due to reliance on unsafe alternative water sources.

“NWSC should act fast before the situation worsens,” another resident warned.

In response, Agnes Amanya, NWSC’s Ibanda Branch Manager, assured residents that efforts are underway to restore supply.

“We are aware of the problem and are doing everything possible to fix the damaged pipes. Our team is on the ground working to ensure that residents regain access to clean water as soon as possible,” she stated.

Amanya explained that the ongoing roadworks had complicated the repair process but emphasized that NWSC was coordinating with relevant authorities to resolve the issue efficiently.

As residents continue to endure the crisis, their call for swift intervention grows louder, with hopes that the much-needed water supply will soon be restored.
