Justice Flavian Zeija, nominated as Deputy Chief Justice to replace the retiring Justice Richard Buteera, has undergone vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, chaired by Speaker Anita Among.
If approved, he will assume the second-highest position in the judiciary, overseeing appellate matters and the administration of justice.
Justice Zeija is among several judicial appointees nominated by President Museveni who appeared before the committee today for mandatory approval.
Also vetted was Justice Muzamilu Kibedi, appointed to the Supreme Court.
The vetting process remains ongoing, with other nominees, including eight justices of the Court of Appeal and 21 acting High Court judges, expected to appear before the committee throughout the day.
Speaking briefly after his vetting, Justice Kibedi emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and constitutionalism.
"The task ahead is to ensure fairness in dispensing justice," he said.
The committee is scrutinizing nominees on their experience, integrity, and commitment to judicial independence. The recommendations from the vetting process will be forwarded to the President for final confirmation.
